About the event

Colored Pencil Drawing Course - $75

A beginner to intermediate-friendly course for creating a still life in colored pencil! Over the course of three Saturdays (July 11th, 18th, & 25th), participants will draw a still life using Prismacolor colored pencils. The still life will be a selection of items and fabric chosen by the instructor to create a scene that students will recreate. During the class participants will learn essential drawing techniques, such as layering and cross-hatching, color blending, and gain foundational knowledge of proportions, value, and color theory. The class will include group critiques for participants to give and receive valuable feedback about their work. Scholarships are available for eligible applicants, see below.

Class for ages 14 & up.

Materials Provided

  • Prismacolor Colored Pencils

  • Large format drawing paper

What to Bring

  • Sketchbook for ideas and notes (optional)

This is a three-session course; it cannot be split, and missed classes will not be refunded. Participants must purchase the course and must cancel before the first day of class (July 11) to receive a course refund. (Class registration required by July 10 @ 6pm.)

About the instructor:

"Nick Lee (b. 1996) is a painter and 2021 Kent State University graduate. Lee’s work is inspired by the diversity of the human experience. As a Japanese-American, Lee’s visual art strives to better represent minorities like himself in American portraiture and western art. Another motivation for Lee is self discovery. Lee uses symbolic Japanese objects in his paintings to connect with a culture that was never taught to him growing up. Lee is the 2023 recipient of the Distinguished Citizen for Art Education for the Northeast Ohio region by the OAEA. Lee is also the recipient of the 2024 Arts Alive Emerging Artist award by Summit Artspace."
