Creative Connections: Family Art Night

Fiber art refers to fine art whose material consists of natural or synthetic fiber and other components, such as fabric or yarn. Join us as we create a unique and upcycled collage art piece out of decorative fabric.  This class is an introduction to fiber (a medium), collage (a techinque), and basic sewing (a technique.) Don't worry! In place of stitching and needles, we will be using glue to keep our class age and family friendly.  This is an introductory class and no skills or knowledge of the subject are necessary to participate.  The class is all about having fun while being creative and learning a new skill.

At the end of class, participants will each receive a White Rabbit Art Supply Tote and supplies to continue working at home.  The instructor will be supplying various colors and prints of fabric to create your piece.  Fabric has been donated by local quilting shop, Coburn's Quilting Plus.

Class Fee: $5 per participant, $15 cap per *family.  Pre-registration is required.

Class Size: Maximum 25 participants

Class Time: 4:30pm-7:00pm.  Refreshments provided.

Recommended for ages 8 & up.  

What is Creative Connections: Family Art Night?

This year White Rabbit Galleries is pleased to host a monthly series of art classes and instruction geared towards providing arts education to our community while also arranging a time for families, friends, and neighbors to spend time together in an engaging activity.  Instruction, supplies, and refreshments are provided for this event, with opportunities to receive supplies to take home to continue creating work.  Each Creative Connections class will cover a different medium of art and technique to maximize creativity and challenge. Participants can sign up for specific classes as they become available and are not required to attend every class. This program is made possible through funding provided by the Barberton Community Foundation.

When will the Creative Connections classes be held?

Our Creative Connections series will be held on every 4th Saturday of the month from 4:30pm-7:00pm.

Who is allowed to participate in the Creative Connections classes?

Anyone!  You do not need to bring a family member or a child to attend the class.  Attend the class with a friend or by yourself.  Participants under the age of 14 must have a guardian present. These classes are recommended for children ages 8 & up and adults.

*How do I take advantage of the $15 per family fee cap and what is considered a "family"?

Families are encouraged to participate in our Creative Connections classes together.  A "family" consists of children and their parents/guardians.  A group of friends participating in the class together is not considered a family.  The $15 per family fee cap is for families of 3 or more participants.  Ex. Two parents/guardians and two children will pay $15 instead of $20.  

To take advantage of our family option select the "Family (min. 3 participants)" option under "Tickets". (Select "View more price options" if Family ticket is not visible.)  Select one ticket in the quantity tab, select "Checkout". List the number of participants when prompted. Complete checkout process.

Can I register in person instead of online?

Yes.  Registrations can be completed at White Rabbit Galleries.  We are located at 571 W. Tuscarawas Ave. in Barberton, Ohio.  Public Hours: Th-Fr 4pm-7pm and Sat 11am-7pm.  Registrations cannot be completed over the phone at this time.  Tickets to the event are on a first-come-first-serve basis.

About the instructor:

Joyce Coburn is owner and operator of Coburn's Quilting Plus. She has been sewing and quilting since the 60's and can do just about anything involving a needle and thread. She's been operating her own business since 1992,and is currently located at 527 W. Tuscarawas Ave., in the beautiful downtown of Barberton, OH.

Inside the quilting shop there are dozens of machines, including two 14' long APQS quilting machines, a 16 thread embroidery machine, two industrial sewing machines and many others.  With a focus on quilting, Joyce also works with wedding and prom gowns. She loves being creative and can't wait to help you create your own fabric art masterpiece.
